From the Author
I have managed design and construction projects as an owner’s representative for over three decades, working with many of the leading architecture, engineering, and construction companies in the United States, on projects for prestigious corporate clients and nonprofits. Managing Design and Construction grew out of the doctoral thesis I wrote, based on what I’ve discovered and practiced over the course of my career. This book includes valuable lessons for anyone involved in a major construction project. It provides an overview of the elements that must be in place for a project to be successful, as well as a step-by-step guide to the entire planning, design, and construction process.
It is my sincere hope that what you take away from this book will help ensure the successful completion of your own projects, on time and in budget. But if all it does is help you prevent one major setback or get you a little closer to accomplishing what you envision, I will be gratified that my effort in producing this book was worthwhile.
